you can take the 5th, BUT...

imagine running a company, seeing a major problem blow up, calling in your manager to make her explain what happened, and she tells you "no, I refuse to answer your questions on the grounds it may tend to incriminate me"


well, meet Lois Lerner, our employee/high-level official at the IRS

rather than tell us how her agency targeted Conservatives and religious people and organizations, she invoked her 5th Amendment right against self incrimination

well that's's her Constitutional right


she is our employee, and as her employer, we need to tell her the ramifications of refusing to tell us what happened are SHE LOSES HER JOB, SHE LOSES HER BENEFITS, AND SHE LOSES HER PENSION

WHY ON EARTH would we allow such a person to keep any of these "public trust" provided benefits????
